Okay.. so in 2014, 3 albums, and ONLY 3 albums, caught my attention. Obviously with RITTZ being my favorite white rapper (you can note that b/c he has a song called White Rapper too) I just HAD to listen to his 2nd independent album, Next To Nothing. And it was off the chain. He kept it consistent and dark and that chopping style plays favoritism in my own music. So naturally I was impressed. The 2nd album was J. Coles 2014 Forest Hills Drive which he dropped with like NO promotion whatsoever. I just finished hearing every track and I was impressed with him as well b/c of how personal his material was. J. Cole, as lyrical and respected an artist as he is, was never one of my favorites (and that isnt a stab at him, its simply preference of music) but to have no advertisement for an album and it still be critically acclaimed, I had to check it out. But the 3rd album.. and in MY opinion the BEST album of 2014 (despite J. Coles album already being nominated by professional critics) is Cadillactica by Big K.R.I.T. When I heard that album for the first time, I couldnt even understand it. So I go on Youtube to watch K.R.I.T. explain in an interview with Sway that Cadillactica represents the planet he claims to be from in his imagination. And the playlist took you on the journey of him finding life on that planet, cultivating what he found, and transforming it into the empire of his music that it is now. HOW DO YOU THINK OF THAT? The best part of Big K.R.I.T. as an ARTIST and about his album is that he produces, mixes, masters, engineers, writes, promotes, networks, and performs ALL of his OWN material. Of course I dug the Shady XV release as well and the dope Shady CXVpher they dropped to promote it, but since it was technically only re-releasing past songs for the most part, it didnt strike me like the other albums did. I definitely encourage yall to check out those 3 albums if you get the chance. A real fan of rap music would love all 3. Rittz, J. Cole, and Big K.R.I.T. are awesome for these masterpieces. #FanFirst #ArtistSecond Giovanni McClain what do you think? (DAT DAT DAT DAT DAT)
