Okay, this might end up being a little long, so... *LONG STATUS ALERT* I repeat, *LONG STATUS ALERT* Do keep scrolling if youre in a hurry... Okay. So! Because I dont have medical right now and Ive been out of my thyroid medicine for a few months, I finally got on the ball and registered for medical yesterday. (Hold your applause and/or eyerolls, I know, I know...) Anywho, when it was said and done, I realized that its still going to be awhile before it gets put into place and I can make an appointment to get back on medicine. What am I going to do in the meantime? I have had an underactive thyroid (known, anyways) for twenty years. Looking back longer than that, Ive had symptoms since I was a teenager. I digress. What I realized, was I have never really researched it much at all. Ive always taken what the doctor says, which is pretty much take your medicine every day, and Ive never pushed to learn anything else beyond that. I was stunned to find out what I found out about hypothyroidism last night, and I read up on it for hours. Not going to bore you with all of that. However, I will say, that in a nutshell, it really isnt what I thought it was at all! Especially when you have the form thats genetic, which is what I have. This past year, with creeping weight gain, I have perused certain peoples posts who have taken the healthy eating road, with awe and interest. Not enough interest to do anything about it yet, but enough to educate myself. Before I researched it last night, I was going to just go full boar and try out a vegan diet, or something along those lines. After researching hypothyroidism, I now realize that would be detrimental to my health. Can you believe it? Many (specifically, cruciferous veggies) will make my thyroid worse than it is. I love my carbs, but if I want to feel better, I have to give them up, also. And sugar. On a really COOL note, the last time I grocery shopped, I bought random things that I never buy: Yogurt, grapefruit, mixed nuts (sans peanuts), and a lot of meat. Yay for me, as this is what I need to kick my thyroid into high gear naturally. I am a little floored. Just one day (yesterday) of strictly eating the things that are good for my thyroid, and today I woke up with no swollen hands, no swollen eyelids, I was FULL of energy, and my BAD MOOD WAS GONE. Maybe its a coincidence, maybe I got lucky, who knows, but I havent felt this way in weeks. Just something interesting to think about... Maybe the best thing to do for oneself is to figure out whats BEST for YOU, and go with that, and never, ever follow the crowd. Carry on, thats all I got! Feeling happy and good today :)
