Okay, were getting a lot of requests to reupload this one, as its apparently a favorite of many. Once again we have Graham Bonnet firing on all cylinders, hitting that high Eb over C toward the end and basically dominating throughout with his inimitable musical personality. I remember being particularly happy with Grahams choir, his employment of multiple dynamic approaches (note his handling of the near soft-rock section, a stunning shift in gears) and...well, everything lol! The solos and backings were meant to be of different flavors; the one in the middle, during the Into the Arena/Assault Attack-esque backing, was played with a Holdsworthian abstract approach, without attempting to emulate Allan or anyone but myself; its one of the most uniquely expressive parts Ive ever played and obviously breaks through the pervasive Schenker/Blackmore/Roth influence on most of Lyraka Volume 1. The varied parts were meant to make the song into multi-chapterd journey through the course of a belief system: repetition of ideals in different keys (the keys themselves used as contexts), recurring doubt, confusion and questioning of the veracity of what is believed, eventually return to self-affirmation, made even more strident in the last verse. The song itself is Graham singing a rallying cry as the character Locke, head of the Palace Guards of Lyraka, and yes people the guards are all mermen whose Empress is of course Jasmine ;)
