Oko Poly functional says TETFund The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has described the Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra state as being functional following what it saw during a familiarization tour of tertiary institution in the country by its newly appointed Board of Trustees. The Southeast BOT member Chinedu Onu who led other staff of TETFund to the polytechnic said they had so far been to three tertiary institution in the Southeast but have not been impressed as they were with what they saw on ground at Oko Poly. According to him, Federal polytechnic Oko was very vibrant as they were coming which shows how functional it was, adding that it shows the qualities of the polytechnic management. He charged the institution to strengthen its linkage programme with foreign institutions, adding that it was by so doing that the polytechnic will improve its research techniques and urged them to be functional minded and forget theoretics. Onu regretted that none of the country’s institution could make the list of the first hundred technology institutions in the world and urged the polytechnic to at least specialize in one area of research. The Rector, Prof. Godwin Onu earlier welcomed the team to the polytechnic of the 21st century and commended the Federal government for the bold initiative to revive the education sector through TETFund. He said that tertiary institutions in the country had never had it so good as under the present government because of the improved budgeting for education by this government. The rector disclosed that federal polytechnic Oko has been one of the beneficiaries of the government improved funding but called for more funding for his polytechnic to meet up with the challenges of the time. He called on the TETFund to come to the polytechnic assistance through intervention funds especially in building 3000 sitting capacity electronic classroom with 3000 computers to aid the institution’s digitalization process.
