Okorocha Reminds Media In Nigeria To Be Objective Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has reminded the Media in Nigeria to be objective in their reportage because it is through the Media that the Public get to know what the Government is doing, pointing out that his administration has remained open to constructive criticism. He gave the advice when the new General Manager of a Radio Station in Owerri and his members of management paid him a courtesy visit. Governor Okorocha also expressed his desire to see the Media being alive to its Social Responsibility to rid the Society of corruption, and charged Media Practitioners in the State to always be objective in their reportage. The Governor, who expressed sadness that some Media Practitioners in the country were no longer objective in their reportage, pointed out that the best form of practice is Investigative Journalism and urged them to apply wisdom. He urged the team to always keep the slogan of the Station, which is “Projecting the people and uniting the nation,” in view, stressing that the Station in Owerri is for the people of the entire Imo State and not for a particular people. He promised to assist the Station, and announced a 50% reduction of the bills of all Political Aspirants, calling on his Political opponents to make use of the State owned Radio Station for their Political Announcements and Advertorials, pointing out that the State owned Radio Station is not only for his Political Party, All Progressive Congress, APC, but for the entire people of Imo State. He disclosed that he has directed that no Imo son or daughter should be denied access to State owned Radio, adding that they should be made to pay the same rate like any other person pays because ‘Soldier come Soldier go Barrack remains’. Earlier in his address, the General Manager, Mr. Basil Uzoma said they were at the Government House to pay homage to the Governor as a mark of respect to him, and assured him of objective reportage, adding that the Station is open to all and provides equal opportunity to all, irrespective of Party affiliations, Religious lines or Ethnic background. He commended the developmental strides of the Government in the State and promised to discharge their duty in fairness, balance and objectivity.
