Old Billy of Michaelston Old Billy told this story in the 1700s when he lived in one of the cottages close to St Michaels Church and it related to William Thomas the diarist of the 1700s who also lived in Michaelston. Billy said Thomas was a magician. There he would be on the green at night pointing to a higher part of the ground where Green Farm house stands with an irregular shaped village green beside it, with his long stick in his hand, and he would have them all around him. What would he have all around him his interviewer asked? Why the Spirits of course, said Billy. But they couldnt do anything to him for he had drawn a circle on the ground with his stick, and there he was standing in the middle of it and they couldnt come to him. The Spirits were obliged to do as he was telling them and he was sending them here and there. (That bit of irregular green is still there at Green Farm but smaller now.)
