Old Firm bosses Ronny Deila and Ally McCoist dreaming of renewing rivalry in League Cup clash Sep 21, 2014 By Gordon Waddell CELTIC and Rangers could meet for the first time in two and a half years if both sides can progress past the third round in the League Cup and both Old Firm bosses are relishing the prospect. Celtic and Rangers fans havent had a Old Firm clash to savour for two-and-a-half years. OLD FIRM bosses Ronny Deila and Ally McCoist last night both insisted they’d love to renew the rivalry in the League Cup. The Glasgow giants will remain on collision course for their first meeting in two-and-a-half years if they can progress past their third-round ties in midweek. Hoops gaffer Deila, whose side face Hearts on Wednesday, said: “It would be fantastic if we can have an Old Firm game again. “These are the big games and I think everyone is looking forward o them. It will be a tough match against Hearts but we’re looking forward to it. “The League Cup is the first trophy I can win. I can assure you I’ll go out 100 per cent to win it.” Meanwhile, McCoist is preparing for a last-16 clash with Falkirk on Tuesday and insists Rangers would be underdogs in a meeting with their old rivals. But he insists his squad are stronger now to face the Hoops than at any time in the past two years. The Ibrox boss said: “I’d take an Old Firm final if you’re offering me it! But we’re not in a position to pick and choose who we might get should we beat Falkirk. “Celtic are still the best team in the country by some considerable way. They are the team to beat. But are we better equipped to face them now? “I wouldn’t have fancied playing them when we were in League 2 or even overly excited about facing them last year. “I can contain myself at the thought of it now. But people can see an improvement in our team from two years ago to now.”
