† Old School † Jesus answered, It is written: Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. Matthew 4:4 NIV One Sunday night at church, many years ago, the Lord spoke to me and urged me to go back to school. The word came through the pastor’s wife, who simply said: “Dion, the Lord wants you to get your GED.” I knew, though, that it was the Lord speaking to me. To shorten this, I will just say that the following Sunday, when I came back to church, I had my GED and the eight hour test had seemed trivial. I went on to attend bible college for a bachelors degree. Years later, I decided that I would return to college and work on a masters degree, which I was just short of. I did not pray about it. I just assumed that it was the right thing to do. After signing up and paying the tuition, it was like a living hell. The teacher seemed to be speaking gibberish and I could not comprehend anything. All the presence of God dried up on my life. After struggling for a month or so, we went to the elders and got prayer about it. They immediately said: “It is not the time.” I dropped out of college and the presence of God came back to my life. Do not assume that something is right for you, even if it is a good thing. Inquire of God before you commit to things. Should I do this? When He says go, nothing on earth can stop you. But if He says no, you really should listen. The old school taught me a great lesson on inquiring of God, though it was not the lesson that I had signed up for.
