Oldhams chairman Simon Corney has said in an interview that Latics are a League Two club punching above their weight in League One simply because they only attract average gates of 3,000 to 4,000. No Mr Corney, YOU are a League Two chairman punching above your weight at a League One club. The fans are out there. During our Premier League days we attracted average gates of 19,000, falling to 13,000 with the introduction of all-seater stadia. We wouldve catered for 30,000+-a-match if our capacity allowed during our first season in the top flight and we always had a capacity crowd at every home game in the top division. We took 36,000 fans to the League Cup Final and 30,000 fans to three FA Cup semi-finals. Show them good football and a bit of ambition and the fans will come back, keep talking like you are doing and more fans will drift away. Theres enough people in Oldham to suggest we are a Championship side punching BELOW our weight in League One - this man has quite clearly had enough after 10 unproductive years overseeing a slow and tortuous decline and he should go NOW.
