Olive Hill’s Heritage Trail Ride and 12 Hours of the Canal Loop The Olive Hill Trail Town Task Force brings you the Olive Hill Heritage Trail Ride this weekend, Sept. 13-15. A popular weekend for locals and visitors alike, there is plenty to see and do around Olive Hill. The “official” ride leaves the Olive Hill Depot trailhead, located downtown, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14. Horses, mules and wagons are all welcome. Primitive camping is available at no charge at the Depot or at Sellers Field, located 5 miles outside of Olive Hill. Camping with trailer hookups is available at the Carter County Shrine Park for $15. There will be a Fun Show on Saturday afternoon at the Shrine Park and plenty of festivities taking place downtown. The Depot will feature live music on Friday and Saturday and will have food available Saturday. On the opposite end of the Commonwealth, mountain bikers will descend on Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area for one of the most popular races of the year. The 12 Hours of the Canal Loop will take place on Saturday, Sept. 14. Brought to you by Endurance+, this event is sanctioned by USA Cycling. It will feature several categories for teams and individuals. Online registration is preferred and available on bikereg. Online registration is available through Sept. 11, but there will also be on-site registration available Friday from 2-7 p.m. Headquarters for the event will be on Scenic Drive in Land Between the Lakes, adjacent to the Canal Loop trailhead. Entry fees and rewards vary based on category. Camping will be available, along with group campfires on Friday and Saturday, and a pasta dinner following the race Saturday evening.
