Olive ridley sea turtle rescued today during Pacific Whale Foundations Molokini-Turtle Arches Cruise on Ocean Odyssey. The turtle was just one mile outside of Maalaea Harbor and it was wrapped in a green polypropylene net. Captain Greg Brady brought the port swimstep within reach of the turtle and naturalist Joshua Wittmer hooked the net with our boat hook. Joshua Wittmer and naturalist Jackson Dowd pulled the turtle up onto the swim step and held the turtle in place while Naturalist Josh Galvan cut the netting to free the turtle. Naturalist Dominique Blair photographed the rescue. After pulling all the netting away from the turtle we spun it around in the knee-deep water on the swimstep and let it swim away. It swam east towards Kihei. The turtle made three quick shallow dives and then a deep dive before we headed back to the harbor.
