Olowo charges youths on politics The Olowo of Owo, Oba Folagbade Olateru-Olagbegi, has urged the people of the community, particularly the youth, to play politics in a manner that would be beneficial to the town. This is just as the Owo Youth Assembly, a conglomeration of young people of the town, has demanded that the Ondo North senatorial seat in the National Assembly be conceded to the town as the nation prepares for the next general election. The Olowo, while speaking with strategic youth conference tagged: “Owo political balance sheet 2015 and beyond, challenges and prospects”, said their was the need for the people to desist from selfishness. The traditional ruler, who spoke through the Olubojo of Owo, High Chief Joseph Olayiwola, urged the youth to engage in constructive dialogue to be able to achieve the desired goals of the community in the political calculation in the state. Olowo also enjoined the people of the community to come together irrespective of party affiliation to work for the development of the town and make it occupy its rightful place in the state. The President, Owo Youth Assembly, Olamiposi Oyegoke, said concerted efforts should be made by all irrespctive of political divide to come together and ensure the emergence of an Owo indigene as the next senator. He argued that the agitation was borne out of the fact that the town, which was the headquarters of the old Owo division had been marginalised for so long. According to him, the Akokos that belong to the same senatorial district had produced majority of the present key political office holders at the detriment of Owo. He listed the posts to include the deputy governor, deputy speaker of the state House of Assembly, the Nigerian ambassador from the state, the Chief of Staff to the President, the state Chief Judge and many more. He lamented that the situation could lead to the complete extinction of Owo community in the Ondo North district of the state. Also speaking, one of the leaders of the youth, Foluso Taiwo, said the infrastrucural facilities in the community needed to be upgraded for it to fit into the comity of developed communities. According to him, the town needed a 132 KVA power station to boost electricity supply and also improve its economic base. Apart from power station, Taiwo added that government and the private sector should collaborate to build an ultra modern civic centre and a youth centre for the people.
