Omar allowed Education Deptt to be asylum of corrupt Ministers, Babus Peerzada, Lone, Tara, Nutan, Natha, Tarsem among plunderers Abodh Sharma Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 9: On the hind side of Chief Minister Omar Abdullahs claims that he assigned top priority to Education sector, the fact of the matter is that he allowed the entire Education department to be reduced into den of corruption from where not only babus, but even Ministers annihilated norms and rules for vested interests and pecuniary benefits. Registration of FIR against Chief Education Officer (CEO) Jammu Tarsem Lal the previous day was just another link in the chain that started just after Omar led Coalition government took over the reins. While CEO was booked along with others for large scale bungling in appointments of Class IV staff in Education department, he was also accused of ordering large scale transfers of teachers, putting postings literally at sale. Tarsem Lals predecessor, Natha Ram was also booked by SVO for misappropriation in purchase of fire extinguishers for schools across Jammu. Even as it was established that then CEO had purchased fire extinguishers at exorbitant prices, he was rewarded with a promotion and designated as Joint Secretary in J&K Board of School Education without mandatory vigilance clearance. Besides the two CEOs, the incumbent chairman of the JKBOSE Dr. Nutan Resutra was also appointed to the post without mandatory vigilance clearance while he was heavily indicted in misappropriation of funds during his tenure as principal of GDC Udhampur and GDC Rajouri. Prior to his appointment as Chairman BOSE also, his appointment as principal GGM Science College, which is the nodal college had also come under scanner. Besides Dr. Resutra, appointment of Dr. Hemla Aggarwal as Principal GCW Parade also raised many an eyebrows as she too was indicted in cases of misappropriation of funds and had cases pending in SVO. Judgment in a PIL filed against appointment of Dr. Resutra as Chairman BOSE is awaited. Interestingly, while all this was happening under the patronage of Dy Chief Minister Tara Chand and Mohammad Akbar Lone, Ministers for School and Higher Education respectively, Omar chose to turn a Nelsons eye over brutal rape of his priority sector. While Tara Chand has been accused of fostering transfer industry in School Education department through his Forest guard PRO Kewal Sharma, who leveled serious allegations against the Minister himself, Akbar Lone who was accused of illegal appointments in Assembly secretariat while he was the Speaker, was also accused of patronizing a well organized transfer industry within the department of Higher Education. Besides Tara and Lone, the former Minister for Education Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed also faced serious charges. He was accused of misuse of his position for illegally helping his foster son in writing his Board exams and also named in the infamous ETT scam where ETT (Elementary Teachers Training) colleges were allocated in gross violation of norms allegedly against pecuniary benefits.
