Omg an old essay I found in my pin drive... sounds like it belongs in a middle school chicken soup book -_- .. mind you this is an old rough draft D: I Would Rather be an Alien When I was six years old it never occurred to me that everyone had a different body with different features. My thinking was simple. You were either a boy or a girl and that was it. I felt fine about the way I was. I thought of myself as average. When I first realized not having a belly button was abnormal I was both horrified and confused. Before, I never would have thought I was so different from everyone else. It was the middle of the day when the sun was at its highest and children ran about the playground sweating bullets. I climbed the purple slide and slid back down. My imagination went wild. I was a giant airplane swooping down making horrific flips and turns. “Woosh!” I exclaimed, while flapping my arms in the air. “Oh no! We are going to crash! Pull up!” I wailed to the imaginary pilots. I came back around to the purple slide when something caught my eye. Suddenly, I was amazed at what I had discovered. I noticed two boys who looked identical to each other. They had the exact same button nose, enormous blue eyes, and jet black hair. They even had the same heedless expression on their faces. My curiosity got the best of me. I went up to the two boys and asked them why they looked so similar. “We are twins,” they said in perfect unison. I had never seen identical twins before. I immediately decided to befriend the two boys. Their names were Simon and Samuel, but I still could not tell them apart. “Want to play a game?” I asked eagerly. Simon and Samuel nodded as one.We played a new game called robots versus aliens, and of course I wanted to be the alien. Before, I would not have guessed what I was setting myself up for. I scampered to the top of the jungle gym and claimed all the galaxies in the universe. As I slid down the long purple time portal, my t-shirt caught against my back and the slide revealing my belly button less stomach. Simon and Samuel stood slack jawed at the end of the slide. “What is the matter?” I asked worriedly. Simon and Samuel looked at each other then back at me, “You are an actual Alien!” they shouted. I was abash and quickly pulled my shirt down. “What is it supposed to look like?” I softly asked feeling ashamed of myself. The twins lifted their shirts and exposed their perfect identical belly buttons. “Allie! It is time to go!” my mother called out to me. I started walking to my mother and when I looked back, the two robots waved together saying “Bye, Alien!” I left the playground feeling alone and rejected. I was a lost little alien missing from her home planet. As soon as I got home I sluggishly walked to my father and slumped down on the couch next to him. “What is the matter, Allie Bear?” my father asked apprehensively. Tears burst from my eyes when I confessed everything that had happened at the playground. My father cuddled me close. I could smell his musky cologne along with a smell I could only describe as ‘daddy’. He looked at me tenderly. In my heart I always knew I could come to my father for advice. My father smiled warmly and said, “Oh honey, why would you want to be a boring old robot if you can be out of this world?” My father lifted his shirt and threw it on the floor. I was shocked and burst out laughing, “Daddy what are you doing?” My father roared, “Look at me I am a hairy ape! I rule this jungle!” My father beat his chest like a silver back gorilla. You could never find anyone as hairy as my father. Finally, my eyes were opened to the beauty of singularity. I ran to my mother for bath time with a smile beaming on my face. “I love you, Mommy!” I exclaimed with much affection. My mother smiled making her beauty mark more visible. Every person is different and that is what truly makes them special. I was frightened at the thought of being completely different from everybody else, but now I see that is what makes me beautiful. Who would want to be a boring robot? I would rather be an alien.
