Omisore Closes Case In Osun Election Tribunal The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in Osun State, Iyiola Omisore, and his party, on Wednesday, closed his case before the Osun State Election Petition Tribunal challenging the victory of Goevrnor Rauf Aregbesola at the August 9 election in the state. Omisore and his party are challenging the victory of Aregbesola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 17 of the 30 local government councils of the state. Closing his case against the re-election of Aregbesola before the Justice Elizabeth Ikpejime-led tribunal, one of the lead counsels, Nathaniel Oke, applied for the close of the case of his clients. Consequently, Aregbesola, who is the first respondent in the petition, will, on Monday, December 8, 2014 open his defence. Already, Aregbesola and his party had listed 610 witnesses to be called in the defence of his mandate. Omisore and his party were able to call 43 witnesses within 14 days, two of whom were claimed to be expert witnesses. They also tendered 388 exhibits ranging from ballot papers, result forms at various levels, voters register, among others to prove their allegations. Oke, while closing the case, appreciated the tribunal and the respondents for their cooperation in the proceedings so far. Aregbesola’s counsel, Femi Falana, also appreciated the tribunal and promised to open the defence on behalf of his client early next week. Each of the respondents has 10 days to defend the case. The chairman of the tribunal, however, adjourned the case till Monday December 8, 2014. Daily Independent.
