On 10/19/2013 PFC Barry and PFC Waddell of the Laurel Police Department responded to a residence on Yardarm Way for an animal complaint. The landlord of an apartment advised a dog had been abandoned in the apartment. Officers heard a dog barking in the apartment and contacted neighbors who advised the tenant had left the apartment over a week ago and had not returned since. Officers gained entry to the residence and discovered a young male pitbull inside. There was dog feces and urine throughout the apartment. The dog had no access to food or water and had been eating plastic containers of baby food to survive. Officers seized the dog and took him to the Laurel Police Department where the dog was given food and water. Fearing the dog would be euthanized if he was turned over to Prince George’s County Animal Control, officers contacted local pit bull rescues in an effort to find a home for the dog. Eventually officers located a pit bull rescue organization in Virginia willing to take custody of the dog and provide him with a foster home until a permanent home can be located.
