On 12/04/14 at approximately 13:38 hours, the staff at Mountain View High School (MVHS) notified the School Resource Officer (SRO) for MVHS about a fight between two students. One of the students had a weapon during the fight. The fight was between two male students. The victim is a 16 year old Loveland male and the suspect is a 17 year old Loveland male. The two students were in a classroom at the time of the incident. The 17 year old student used a vulgar word in class which the 16 year old told the teacher about. The 17 year old student wanted to fight the other student after school. The 16 year old student didn’t want to fight. The teacher was in the class while this was going on. The teacher turned her back so that she could notify the school administration about the disturbance. The 17 year old student took out a weapon and threatened to assault the victim. The teacher talked to the 17 year old student and got him to lower the weapon. The teacher was instrumental in de-escalating this situation. The teacher and both students walked out of the classroom. The teacher talked the 17 year old student into handing the weapon over to the teacher. The school administration and the SRO contacted both parties and investigated the disturbance. The 17 year old was placed into custody for: Attempted Assault in the First Degree. A class 4 Felony Felony Menacing. A class 5 Felony Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon on School Grounds. A class 6 Felony Unlawfully Carrying a Concealed Weapon. A class 2 Misdemeanor. The 17 year old male was taken to a juvenile holding facility. This case will be filed with the Larimer County District Attorney’s office. The name of the 17 year old male is not being released at this time. That information may be released after the case has been filed with the DA’s office.
