On 15th February 1898 the USS Maine was blown up in Havana Harbour, killing 266 Americans. The USA gained Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Philippines as a result of the war that followed. The war cost the USA $250 million. In 1917 the RV Lusitania was sunk off Ireland, that event and the Zimmerman letter were used as a pretext to bring the USA into World War One. By 1916 the financial centre of the world had moved from London to New York. World international banking lent money to all and it cost the Allies 125,690,477,000 and the Central Powers 60,643,160,000. Germany finished paying for World War One in 2010, Britain finished in paying for World War 2 in 2006 but still have $225 billion in debt to pay off our debt for World War One......Read article for more.
