On 7 March 321, the Roman Emperor Constantine I decrees that the dies Solis — day of the Sun (Sunday) is the day of rest in the Empire. The Decree endorsed to the worship of the God-Sun (Sol Invictus) in the Roman Empire. The dominant religions in the regions of the Empire were Pagan, and in Rome, it was remarkable the Mithraism, specifically the cult of Sol Invictus. The followers of Mithraism gathered on Sunday. Although some Christians used the decree to support the guard Sunday, trying to resolve the controversy to keep the Sabbath or Sunday in the Christian Church, in fact, the Decree does not apply to Christians or Jews. Although this doesnt indicate a change of guard in Christianity, as in practice the edict doesnt favor a different day for the religious rest, including the Jewish Sabbath. This edict was part of the Roman civil law and their Pagan religion, and was not an edict of the Christian Church or stretched the Abrahamic religions. Only in 325 at the first Council of Nicaea Sunday would be confirmed as the Christian day of rest, and the guard of the Saturday abolished at the Council of Laodicea. Edict of Constantine proclaimed on 7 March 321. That all judges, and all the inhabitants of the city, and all the merchants and craftsmen rest on the venerable day of the Sun, nevertheless, meet the farmers with full freedom to the cultivation of the fields; seen happen often that no other day is so suited to the sowing of grain or the planting of the vineyard; Hence the duty not to pass up the favourable time granted by Heaven .
