On 9/11/01 I was working as a contractor at the Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station at Naval Station Roosey Roads in Puerto Rico. I had just gotten off the graveyard shift and had turned on Fox & Friends to decompress before going to bed. The first tower was already burning and the hosts were discussing what may have happened for this airliner to accidentally have crashed into the tower. As I sat there watching the live feed the second plane crashed into the second tower. I sat there stunned. Our world and our country changed drastically. Some changes were good. Patriotism became universally accepted and we rallied as a country. No right, no left, we had a common enemy. The world rallied around us with banners that read Were all Americans now!. It did not last. As for me, in the weeks that followed I attempted to go back to Active Duty (I was retired or technically on IRR). The recruiter informed me that it would be easier to promote another Chief than to get me back to active duty. I was comforted in that as a DoD contractor I was technically still serving. I am still serving. I am on watch. 24/7. For you crazy bastards who think you are doing Gods work and want to destroy my country and my way of life I suggest you steer clear of wherever I may be located. This infidel will not go gently into that good night. Dont be fooled by those in my country who will bow to you, justify your actions or appologize for us. There are more like me than there are them and we will send you to the dust bins of history.
