On Amazon reviews of Max Blumenthals book Goliath, Rania wrote this comment to a review by Ren: • ...Long evenings with Goliath led to long hours online trying to verify information, and it really is incredible how much hasbara I encountered in the process and have started noticing since. Thank you, truly, for reading the book to your listeners. This book must be read, but I finished it and wondered what kind of people would read it. Would it feel too biased for someone who is not pro-Palestinian? I want to give this book to American friends who are clueless, to young, carefree Israeli friends for whom Palestinians are a myth they never need to concern themselves with; would they read it? Or would it be like a Christian asked to read Dawkins only to find that Dawkins is really writing for atheists to collect more arguments against Christians? Im not suggesting Blumenthal writes that way, but at times I wished we, readers, couldnt always tell what he was thinking. I wished we couldnt read his mind and sense his judgment, whether sympathy or lack of it, as he interviewed people. A browse through Amazon confirmed the sad truth that people mostly read writings that echo their beliefs. One reader writes of Levi-Meirs History Upside Down: the Roots of Palestinian Fascism and the Myth of Israeli Agression, If the Israeli government had any sense of PR they would buy the copyright and put the text of the book online on the web. And its actually being sold new for $1.99, used copies for less than a dollar. Blumenthal questioned. How do you make everyone question? Kids are being brainwashed with the carefully manipulated history theyre taught, on both sides. My god, I was taught so many lies, and the discovery of things that were always hidden from me was an icy slap on the face, a very bitter, angry realization- the realization that you can really just simply wipe things out from history. How can truth find a way out with so many lies being labeled as truths and truths brushed aside as lies? More people like Blumenthal should write. More Palestinians should tell their stories.
