On April 11th, I was completely stopped in traffic as I was on my way to workout. A Ford Fusion was behind me and not paying attention to the stopped traffic (going 45-50mph). I saw him approaching very rapidly and grabbed my steering wheel with both hands and told myself all you need to do is keep going straight and not go into oncoming traffic. The driver of the Fusion then looked up and realized that the traffic was completely stopped and decided to try to go for the ditch instead of hitting me. Because of his speed, he was not able to make it to the ditch and still rammed the back of my 850. This caused my car to be pivoted and pushed where my entire front end was in the lane of oncoming traffic. From there, a Ford F150 was coming in the oncoming traffic (going 40-50mph) and hit the front of my 850 and spun me around. (I was expecting to get rear ended but not pushed into oncoming traffic) The airbags deployed, the fenders broke away as they were supposed to, the seat belts tensioned and every single safety feature that needed to work did. I got out of my car and realized that although I was shaken up a bit, I was not fatally injured. I called my mom to tell her what happened and almost in tears (because of how happy I was that I was not injured) I said, Mom, my Volvo saved my life! This wreck could have been much worse if I was in any car but a Volvo. The police, paramedics, and fire department arrived immediately. The paramedics ran over and asked me if I needed to go to the hospital. I replied No and they looked a little confused and asked what car I was in. I pointed and said the black one. They looked back at me and said are you sure, have you seen your car? I replied that I felt fine and was not having any problems breathing and I did not feel any pain. After I said that the paramedic walked around to the back of the car and looked and said of course, he was in a Volvo! He then told me if I had been in any other car I could have easily injured or paralyzed. The police and fire department all agreed with his statement when they heard that. My mom and my friend that I was on my way to meet both came to the scene. Once my 850 was getting towed my mom asked me if I wanted to go home or if I still wanted to go work out. I turned to my friend and asked, do you still want to? I completely understand if you dont. He replied, Its up to you, if you are still up for it we still can. I told him that we still would and I would try to do the exercises but if nothing else I could just spot him. Needless to say, I was still able to perform every exercise and complete the workout. (When I told my other friend they all said that only I would still go workout after being in a wreck.) The only injuries that I incurred was a few scrapes on my arms from the air bag. Even the next day I was not sore at all! My mom has been driving a Volvo since 1984 because Volvo is synonymous with safety. Today really showed me that commitment Volvo has. Although my 1994 Volvo 850 may be gone, I will be getting another Volvo and nothing else! ~Credits to ctosie Swedespeed, For Volvo Enthusiasts #Volvosavedmylife #Volvo #850Sedan #VolvoSafe #Swedespeed
