Learn more about Professor Soohoo: law.cuny.edu/faculty/directory/soohoo.html Register for Alumni Weekend: law.cuny.edu/alumni/pila-alumni-weekend-2014.html For nearly three years, we have been watching Syria—first with hope and then with a growing sense of horror—as peaceful calls for freedom degenerated into a protracted war. The peace talks that started in January in Switzerland offered a new opportunity to lay the groundwork to end the conflict. But instead, the international process to negotiate a peace settlement has been dominated by armed groups who are most responsible for escalating the violence. Why have efforts to negotiate a peace faltered so far? How can we ensure that a peace agreement lasts? What are the legal strategies that international attorneys are engaged in to advocate for a strategic cease-fire through the participation of women-led civil society? This CLE session will address these questions and provide a holistic understanding of the current international legal strategy currently underway.
