On August 23rd, 2013 shortly after 7:00 PM, Rockford Police Officers responded to 3207 Westgate Parkway in reference to a shooting incident. Upon arrival, officers located the shooting victim who was a 25 year old male. The victim was shot one time in the upper back. The victim was transported by Rockford Fire Department personnel to a local hospital where he was treated. Rockford Police Detectives conducted follow up investigation into the incident. The facts of the investigation were reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office. The following charges were authorized: Daniel Ibarra-Cornado, 21 years of age, Rockford, Illinois Attempted Armed Robbery Aggravated Battery with a Firearm Miguel Cantu, 20 years of age, Rockford, Illinois Attempted Armed Robbery Aggravated Battery with a Firearm Rockford Police Detectives obtained arrest warrants for both Ibarra-Cornado and Cantu. On September 23rd, 2013 Rockford Police Detectives received information Ibarra-Cornado and Cantu were in the Lake Geneva/Walworth County Wisconsin Area. Rockford Police Detectives combined efforts with officers from the Lake Geneva Police Department and Walworth County Sheriff’s Department in an effort to locate Ibarra-Cornado and Cantu. Shortly before 9:00 PM, Ibarra-Cornado and Cantu were located in a private residence in Walworth County Wisconsin. Ibarra-Cornado and Cantu were lodged in the Walworth County Jail pending extradition to Illinois. The charges against Ibarra-Cornado and Cantu are merely accusations. They are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
