On Being A Hustler… “Hustle isnt just doing the things you love all the time. Hustle is doing the things you dont enjoy sometimes to earn the right to do the things you love.” (John Acuff) One of the most insidious culprits of demise in our society today is entitlement. We live in a day and age where instant gratification rules. We want what we want when we want it. And more often than not we want it now. We want the blessings and favor of God minus the intimacy and obedience He requires. We want a relationship that lasts a lifetime without investing the time, compromise, and sacrifice necessary. We want the benefits of commitment without the being restricted by the boundaries of it. We want maximum return on a minimal investment. We want success and renown, without taking the time to hone our respective crafts in integrity and patience. We want the body of an athlete with the habits of a sluggard. We want it quick and we want it easy. Somewhere along the line we forgot that no one owes us anything regardless of how amazing, talented, intelligent, or exceptional we may think we are. If the first response you have to adversity in any given venture is to wash your hands of it and walk away, you aren’t doing it for love. If you are not willing to do the work and accept the blood, sweat, and tears required to make something truly excellent, you haven’t earned the right to expect the fruit that follows. Taking something of value without paying the price to rightfully possess it is theft. And there is no honor in thievery. To love, to be loved, or to do something you love is a privilege, not a foregone conclusion.
