On Compassion A question I received: Why do you dismiss the word compassion as negative? My answer: I dont. Compassion is important in that it may serve as the source of moral impulse that leads one to see the importance of and rationality of interspecies justice and how veganism is an essential part of that justice. On my views on moral reasoning, see: goo.gl/9sFufj What I *do* object to is the use of compassion by the large animal charities. They use compassion to describe doing the wrong thing in a supposedly better way. So they talk about the compassionate decision to consume cage-free eggs or crate-free pork. To use compassion in that context is, in my view, obscene. Its like saying that a slave owner who beat his slaves less than other slave owners was compassionate. I hope this clarifies my position.
