On DAY THREE of Ben Walker-Storeys ART CHALLENGE I nominate a friend who’s inspired me for many years artistically, but more recently has given me some personal goals to strive for. I nominate Benton Jew to post 3 pieces of HIS art for the next 5 days, and nominate a favourite artist of HIS each day. Benton’s artwork has blown me away since I first met him in the late 1990s, when we both worked at ILM. In 2004 he organised an anthology comic book that gave me the reason to first publish Sephilina (or ‘Squid Girl’ as she was then known) and consolidated his place in my creative life. But in 2010, Benton went through the same devastating medical issues that I am dealing with now, and likewise lost the use of his drawing arm. Take it from me, that is about the worst thing that can happen to an artist, and yet, most inspiringly of all for me personally, Benton has recovered 100% four years later, and now draws with his right hand again, giving me hope that one day I too may do the same. All the art I’ll post today is my left-handed artwork done in the past year.
