On Dec. 18, the Silver Academy recognizes the confluence of Chanukah and education with a Celebration of Light and Learning. Students share things theyve learned in class, and they sing songs and make presentations reflecting on Chanukah. Batsheva Gewirtz is a Silver Academy eighth-grader and student council president. I also asked Batsheva what she has learned from the schools Chanukah celebrations. The Jews were tough, and they beat the Greeks even though (the Greeks) had a bigger army, she said. Nice lesson. What does that teach you? That even if Im a minority or smaller, I can still beat people, like in games, she said. I will definitely watch for this young woman in the WNBA soon.
