On December 16, 2013 Deveraux Hubbard II died from a Pulmonary Embolism at the age of 19. Deveraux came home from college for Christmas break with Flu-like symptoms, but unfortunately it was not the Flu. Although Deveraux never complained of pain in his leg, it was determined that he had a blood clot in his calf that suddenly broke off and traveled to his lung and instantly killed him. This is called a Deep Vein Thrombosis that turned into a Pulmonary Embolism. Neither he nor our family knew anything about Blood Clots, the signs or the symptoms prior to Deveraux’s shocking death. Together, DVT and PE are the No. 3 cardiovascular killer worldwide. Too few people know about the life-threatening consequences and many doctors do not diagnose it early enough to prevent or treat it correctly. FAR too many people are dying a preventable death. The Deveraux Hubbard II Foundation has been formed in an effort to increase awareness about clotting disorders and to support education.
