On December 4th, 2014 iiDi partnered with a growing group of Uruguayan activists with and without disabilities who, following the International Day for Persons with Disabilities decided to join a march in the center Montevideo and later host their own event to celebrate this special day. To recognize and promote the right that every person has to participate in ALL social spaces, the group, which has taken on the name Estamos Tod@s (Everyone Involved), began the night with a “sitting” to offer an inclusive alternative to the march. The members of Estamos Tod@s sat, with signs and music, outside of the local bar-café, Kalima Boliche. Following the sitting, the group began a lively night involving music, art, poetry and theatre with performers with and without disability. The group encouraged all the evening’s participants to become more involved and participate in planning future events to keep momentum. Upcoming plans include a conference hosted in Montevideo with representation of several Latin American countries by young leaders in disability inclusion.
