On December, 5th 2014 Berkeley Mayor Theodore Hoskins confronted Berkeley residents and community advocates. The residents were attempting to obtain housing documents from the City and had just been rejected for the second time. The following video is the only recorded portion of the conversation in which Mayor Hoskins threatens to reject further applications for housing documents and to seek out other non-citizens living in the City of Berkeley. Although a fair housing complaint has been filed, to date, Berkeley continues to deny housing permits to these residents. We are demanding that the City: 1) Grant these families their necessary housing permits, 2) Amend city ordinances to expressly accept foreign-issued identification, such as passports and consular IDs, for city purposes. And 3) to stop using residency permits as a revenue stream, and a way to discriminate against residents.
