On Etche 2015, I stand. I may not be an A grade politician, but at least I understand and have experienced some level of politicking in this country. As a result of our multiethnic composition, our politics has been negotiated on the interests of clusters and has remained so. Everyone asks what is in it for them, if they should flow with the thoughts of others. In essence, it is a game of if you fall for me, I fall for you. Upon the above, one is forced to ask: what is in 2015 for Etche? Before you dismiss me for a woman who should retire to the kitchen and not talk about politics, listen attentively to what I have to say and react on the bases of points or pointlessness of it/them. I was very happy when I learnt that an Etche son, in the name of Chief Captain Sunday Nwankwo is aspiring to the office of Governor of Rivers State. He already has my vote if he gets nominated, irrespective of the platform. Politics is local. Any party that guarantees an Etche son ( I am using son to represent both male and female ) a seat at the Federal Executive Council gets my vote on the Presidential Election ballot. For Senate, this for me is not negotiable. It has to be for Etche. The Rivers East Senatorial District cannot afford to be represented by another ethnic group other than Etche, It just wont sell. That said, who do we send. The constitution says anyone who is 35 years old and above, has attempted SSCE, and is indigenous to the district, is qualified. This means we already have a heavy stock of qualified people. How about the leading political figures in Etche? PDP: Prince Emma Anyanwu: Prince Emma Anyanwu is the eldest politically relevant individual in Etche land today. He is the leader of the PDP in Etche and the first man to endorse Hon Minister Wike for Governor. It is said that he is powerful and very influential within the PDP ranks. Why isnt Prince Emma considering this challenge? As much as I am surprised, I am equally not surprised. Prince Emma has never sought for an elective position and doesnt seem like he will be starting now. Moreover, age is no longer on his side. Sir, you can negotiate for another Etche man within your fold. Chief Jerome Eke: Igolo they say is interested in going to the House of Representatives. The man has made his choice, so that rules him out. Chief Ephraim Nwuzi: It is still very unclear to me if he is seeking an elective position. If he is, The Federal House of Representatives looks more like it. He has always eyed it. Or he may be waiting on his master The minister to get elected and give him a juicy appointment. Hon Kelechi Nwogu: It is crystal clear that this young and fearless young man wants to return ton the Assembly and possibly catch a higher and better House office position. Over to the APC. Chief Allwell Onyesoh: The fox in the APC and one who has managed to be relevant in the faces of favourable and unfavorable political climates. He has the clout and the character. He is popular and well experienced. He is one of our best bets should he decide to throw his hat into the ring. Allwell, not very surprisingly though, still enjoys the largest support base in Etche and the greatest respect. Hon Ogbnonna Nwuke: A gentleman, intelligent and accomplished publisher. The Hon member representing us at the House of Reps. Rumours have it that he is interested in returning to the House of Reps, but if not, this is another man matured and qualified to go to the Senate. He has over the last years progressed on the rungs of politics and is experienced. He only needs to work on his local support base and be more accessible. Hon Okey Amadi: I do not know if he has interest in contesting any elective position, but he is equally qualified. Hon Nnamdi Okere: Same as in Hon Okey Amadi, above. Special Chief Igbokwe Nwuzi: He is eminently qualified and respected in the state. His only challenge will be his dwindling local followership which worsened with his involvement in the agro project. His unstable political movement is also another factor. Hon Golden Chioma: Sources have it that he is poised Donna return to the House and is looking at the office of speaker. This is a good one. With his age and experience in the legislative business, Golden stands a chance of earning that office for Etche people. Hon Victor Amadi: Sources also have it that he is also poised on a return to the House and is also angling for a higher and better House office. Jerome Okere: Very qualified and intelligent, but does he have the financial war chest to prosecute a political battle like the Senate? His best bet would be the House of Reps which he has always angled for. Others: Mr Kingsley Onyebuenyi: An Etche son from the Omuma axis. A high tech intelligent young man. Idealistic and eloquently prepared. He is qualified, but my fear is whether he will agree to leave the private sector to venture into full time politics. Mr Sonny Nsirim Nwarisi: The Ozuzu born guru of financial and investment services. A chartered accountant who has headed world renowned firms such as PWC, Deloitte, OANDO, etc, in one capacity or the other. A young man, one of the greatest and most intelligent exports from Etche land. Will he agree to venture into full time politics? Sonny is one for the future, a young man we should all look out for. Reading through this again, you would find that we are qualified enough to go. We should urge any one of these people to go for us, or get someone outside them to take us there. On Etche 2015 I stand.
