On Europe day, Lista za Rijeku - Lista per Fiume organized a press conference to remember Free State of Rijeka-Fiume as the first victim of fascism. In 1922 Italian Fascists carried out a coup détat against the legal and democratically elected government of Free State of Rijeka-Fiume president Riccardo Zanella. During the coup detat, two city policemen died while defending Zanellas presidential palace. Zanella resigned and moved his government in exile to Kraljevica (a small town close to Rijeka, then part of Kingdom of Yugoslavia). Riccardo Zanella continued his fight against fascism, together with his son, he moved to France and was part of French resistance movement and later imprisoned in a concentration camp.
