On Fear Of Surveillance Technology, by Emrys Westacott. 1. The Frankenstein complex -- by this he means, the transponder on your car fails to work one day and the next thing you know, instead of owing 50 cents for the toll, youre getting violation notices, fines, late payment fees, and notices that you are liable to arrest, but you cant talk to an actual human to explain your situation, your only interaction is with machines. 2. Fear of losing ones privacy -- some people think they need privacy for peace of mind, but most people do not seem to worry too much about a loss of privacy due to everyone being able to know more about everyone else. 3. Fear of political domination -- The central idea of Orwells 1984 is that a political ruling class could, by ubiquitous and relentless surveillance, not just of a few potential troublemakers, but of everyone, succeed in entrenching themselves in power so completely that there is no possibility of any further political change.
