On February 3rd, 2015 around 6AM I’m going to attempt to thru-hike the entire NETT trail in less than four days, and ideally in less than three days. By hike the entire NETT I mean covering the entire 130 mile length without taking detours/walk arounds/roads/rides/etc. I plan on doing my hike completely self-supported; living off only items I can find or buy. While there are multiple people that have attempted the entire NETT on both foot and on bike I don’t believe anyone has covered the entire rail banked NETT without leaving the trail/rail bed or having to skip small sections based on the incredible overgrowth that’s been present on the trail for so long. In early 2014 Lynn Ballard and I even gave the trail a go on our bikes and only made it ~40 miles or so to Clarksville before giving in to the bamboo thickets and Tracy’s all you can eat buffet!! Tons of people have made this idea a possibility and these people are pioneers of the NETT trail. Tracy Rumsey, Dean Nix, Wesley Morrow, Lynn Ballard, Cameron Dodd, Tim Melander, Wade Guthrie, Suzee Bolton and NUMEROUS (sorry if I missed your name) other people. Wesley Morrow will forever be one of the single greatest contributors to this trail. This trail has a LONG way to go, but I hope my hike will bring more awareness to the trail and possibly motivate others to come out and spend some time on the NETT, because I feel one of the only factors that will keep this trail open is continued foot and bike traffic. I will be taking a GPS unit with me to verify my route, but it does not have a live feed. As soon as I get done I’ll post up the results and a brief write up. If you’re interested in seeing me somewhere along the trail my ideal schedule is to leave New Boston around 6AM on Tuesday Feb 3rd, end day one and camp between Bagwell and Clarksville. Day two would be from camp to just past the Sulphur River. Will most likely camp next to the river, and day three will be from camp to Farmersville. I honestly cannot predict when I’ll finish but hopefully sometime between 6PM-11PM on Thursday night. I’ll post periodic facebook updates to the facebook page for those that may be interested in meeting me at the finish for a brew. (BYOB!) I am posting my route below so everyone can see the route I’m choosing through Paris and the section of trail that is not rail banked. Feel free to ask any questions you may have and feel free to come out and see me at any point along the trail. See you on the trail!!
