On Friday, July 18, 2014, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) visited the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) in Roswell, New Mexico for a briefing and tour of the academy’s current program and facilities. During his visit, Senator Heinrich met with law enforcement officers from Bulgaria, Macedonia, and Kosovo for a Transnational Organized Crime Policy Forum and Academic Criminal Justice training at ILEA Roswell. The Academy is administered by Department of State’s International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL) in partnership with the Departments of Justice, Treasury, and Homeland Security. The ILEA Program is an international network that trains foreign law enforcement officials on the latest techniques in criminal justice practices. The ILEAs support emerging democracies, help protect U.S. interests through international cooperation, and to promote social, political and economic stability by combating crime. ILEA Roswell has trained more than 4,000 international law enforcement personnel since opening its doors in 2001.
