On Friday a Pettis County coroner determined two homeless men died from hypothermia after being exposed to below freezing temperatures. According to the National Coalition for the Homeless nearly 700 people experiencing or at-risk of homelessness die from hypothermia every year in the United States. Recently Columbia opened Warming Centers, in addition to official shelters, to protect people without immediate shelter from the cold.
