On Human Rights Day and the International Day for the Elimination - TopicsExpress

On Human Rights Day and the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, I am indebted to the brave South Africans who protested against apartheids ridiculous, racist pass laws on 21 March 1960. 54 years ago today, those who lost their lives or were injured in Sharpeville, in Langa and other parts South Africa made the ultimate sacrifice. Their quest for dignity and justice marked a turning point in the struggle against apartheid and racial segregation in South Africa, the US and around the world. Today the struggle continues. And as we honor the heroes of 21 March and celebrate progress, I am reminded that we are not free until discrimination is eliminated and the human rights of our sisters and brothers everywhere in the world are respected. southafrica.info/about/history/sharpeville.htm#.Uyvp9a1dXXE
