On June 15, after I spent about 30 mins cradling Candys convulsive - TopicsExpress

On June 15, after I spent about 30 mins cradling Candys convulsive body in my arm, the truck finally arrived for us to haul our girls into an area with better cell service. The Somerville police officer was very compassionate and sincere; however, the crime occurred outside her jurisdiction which meant Washington Co would take our case so we waited & waited til long after sundown. Amongst the first words out of this Washington Co guys mouth was something along the lines of all you hog hunters better learn to control your own animals HOLD UP! My Animals WERE controlled. When Shawn saw them on the road, he immediately called them & my girls were running BACK TO US! Excuse them for being unable to outrun the truck chasing them. Rather than asking for a vehicle description, the cop immediately began defending the person who did this saying they probably thought they were wild dogs....FIRST OF ALL his job is to investigate, not defend the criminal or make up excuses for why he WONT do his job. SECONDLY it was broad daylight & my dogs were decked out in their usual hot pink cut gear & trackers. THIRDLY it was a clear cut straightaway with no hills or curves, the driver had several hundred yards to see the dogs & distinguish that they were domesticated dogs & see people on the side of the road. He (the cop) again defended the driver saying it was too dark to tell anything about the dogs to which we pointed out that its dark NOW because we had been WAITING FOR HIM TO ARRIVE!! I then asked him if he was telling me that its not illegal to deliberately plow down an animal on the road at which point he aggressively raised his voice at me & said yes young lady thats exactly what Im saying its not a crime the thing is IT IS A CRIME!! Its animal cruelty & its a felony! This is a person supposed to help us? This person is supposed to uphold our justice system? He defended criminals & made up excuses why he WOULDNT help us. Now if someone were murderer would it be a fair assumption for a responding officer to say they probably deserved it or they were probably mistaken for someone else? NO!! HIS JOB IS NOT TO JUSTIFY THE BEHAVIOR OF OTHERS WITH PROBABLE ASSUMPTIONS, HIS JOB IS TO USE THE INFO AVAILABLE AND PURSUE ALL LEADS. I know there are good police out there, the officer from Somerville is a hero & I know that officer would do everything possible to help. But unfortunately the officer from Washington county who looked to be a few donuts past his last weight watchers meeting was either too lazy or just doesnt care and that is not the kind of officer that needs to remain in his position.
