On June 2, city council members will consider an amendment to the Animal Care and Control ordinance that would allow owners of an impounded animal to retrieve their pet, for less than half the cost, if they complete a proposed First Offense Program. The responsible pet ownership class includes an exam. The owner would be required to take the class within 24 hours of notification that the pet has been impounded. The proposed change will be discussed at the 6 p.m. work session and it is Item 2H on the consent agenda. To see the background on the proposed change, go to the June 2 city council agenda, bit.ly/1roxc4v. If you can’t make it to the work session or the 7 p.m. regular meeting, you can watch the meetings live or view the archived video of the June 2 meeting on Tuesday at bit.ly/1mhc1i2.
