On June 24, 2009, the Frederick News Post printed an article with this headline: Commissioners approve controversial incinerator project. After fighting the damned incinerator for more than three years at that point, it was a very sad day, even though, by that time, it was not a surprise. The fight against the environmentally-irresponsible, extremely costly and financially risky 1,500 tons per day, regional mass burn incinerator stretched into more than eight and a half years...until it ended, tonight. Its would be difficult to adequately describe how that feels. I am extraordinarily grateful to all the people who put time and effort into the fight, month after month, year after year, in so many ways. A few in particular committed more of themselves than most people could imagine. I hesitate to try and name all of them here and now, for fear of leaving anyone out. But that time will come. This day can not come and go, however, without noting that it is not as though so many worked so hard only to prevent something bad, and end up back where we started, all these years later. No. Not at all. Because of this campaign, and the knowledge that has been gained, and the connections that have been made, we have a real and solid foundation for moving forward. And now we will!
