On LASU crisis, Lai Adebayo wrote: I read with dismay the recent happenings in Lagos State University (LASU). The claims by the university management led by Prof. Oladapo Obafunwa that students vandalised properties worth millions of naira do not hold waters, knowing fully well that when you push people to the wall, the wall would definitely pushed back at you. The state of facilities in the school doesnt justify the exorbitant fees being paid by students in the university, students are not getting value for their money. In a University that is funded by tax payers money, the University management should be held responsible for all the damages that occurred during d protest because of their nonchalant and autocratic nature which made them invite men of the nigerian police force to fire tear gas canisters at students who were demanding for their rights. Even to the extent of firing into the University mosque and church. I implore the Lagos State government to reverse to the old school fees regime. This anti-people policy of outrageous fee hike would affect the state in various ways which include deepening the illiteracy level in a state that is already educationally disadvantaged. It would also give rise to various social vices in the state and affect the economy of the state - a state believed to be the economic capital of Nigeria. The lack of required education among the preponderance number of youths would create more burden on the economy because it will lead to dearth in productivity. I want to appeal to all and sundry to join this crusade. I believe it is not too late for us to reclaim our heritage which is becoming a shadow of itself. Lastly I want to urge the University management and Lagos State government to stop all their media propaganda against the maverick, responsible and intelligent students of Lagos State University. Lasuites are not violent; they are not thugs (as claimed by one of the members of the Lagos State House of Assembly) but they will never accept any shit ...from anybody. Greatest Lasuites! Lets always remember our union motto and stand by it, Dare to Struggle, Dare to Win. Lasu O Ni Daru O, Lai Lai Lai Adebayo Ibrahim (LAI) LASUSU President 2010/2011
