On March 13, 2014, at around 0800 hours, two black males armed with a shotgun/rifle and a black handgun robbed the Rite Aid located at 731 Whitlock Avenue, in Marietta, Georgia; the suspects were successful in obtaining an unknown amount of cash. The suspects also forced a female patron to the rear of the store, but she was able to fight one of the suspects off and flee. The suspects escaped the location in a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu, but a witness noticed the vehicle and was able to provide the tag number to detectives. Thorough evidence review, witness/victim interviews and follow-up investigative techniques allowed detectives to identify one of the suspects as Travis Bernard Allen; Allen was the suspect armed with the shotgun/rifle. The information was passed along to several local agencies, as the same two subjects from the Marietta robbery were suspected in a series of drug store robberies in Gwinnett, Douglas County, DeKalb and Newnan that started in the fall of 2013. MPD secured an arrest warrant for Allen for Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault and Kidnapping. On Saturday, March 29, 2014, DeKalb County Police located the suspect and vehicle at 2571 Candler Road in Decatur, Georgia, and arrested Allen without incident. Allen is currently in custody in DeKalb jail awaiting transfer to Cobb County. Several agencies are to be commended in this investigation including the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force, Cobb County Sheriff, DeKalb County PD, Douglasville PD and Douglas County S.O.
