On May 22, 1950, composer Bill Whelan was born in Limerick City. He has been a keyboardist for the folk music band Planxty, but is best known for composing two Eurovision Song Contest interval pieces. 1981s Timedance fused traditional Irish music by Planxty with ballet dancers and a rock rhythm section.
