On Monday, August 25, 2014 at approximately 1:35 A.M. an officer with the Caseyville Police Department was on a vehicle stop in the 400 block of South Main Street, Caseyville. The officer was working a DUI patrol detail in conjunction with the Illinois Department of Transportation via the Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program. During the vehicle stop, a suspected DUI driver rear ended the officer’s marked patrol unit which caused extensive damage to both vehicles. Neither the officer nor the suspect were injured during the crash. The Illinois State Police were contacted to investigate the crash which resulted in the suspect being placed under arrest for DUI. We would like to remind everybody to drink responsibly and designate a sober driver so you can “Arrive Alive.” This crash is just another example of the dangers associated with drunken driving and how one bad mistake could potentially cost lives.
