On Monday Croatia will be joining the European Union as the 28 th member state. Is this driven by economic fundamentals or political considerations? Economically they are going through a recession. Russians and Turks had to have Visas to visit which will affect tourism. Croatian companies will go over border to Bosnia in order to avoid paying duties when trading with othe Balkan states.A plus is that they are not joining the Euro. What is the main driver encouraging them to join the EU?Politically is Western Europe still worried that the Cold War might be revived?most Bulkan states are back to their authoritarian ways at the expense of democracy. Is this the main driver compelling Europe to accept this ailing member state?guaranteed in no time they will want to tap into the bailout fund.I am watching the space with keen interest as there are lessons to be leant for us particularly the importance of your neighbors in pursuit of economic emancipation.
