On Monday, Gillian went to the hospital as she was feeling quite - TopicsExpress

On Monday, Gillian went to the hospital as she was feeling quite short of breath. An x-ray showed her she still had a lot of fluid in the lining around her lung. (It is technically called pleural effusion). They drained some more off but this time the procedure did not go as smoothly and was quite painful. However, she felt much better afterwards. Today, she had an appointment at a clinic at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre. They did another x-ray and there was still a lot of fluid. She had a fantastic dr who recommended putting in a catheter that will stay in long term. That way, a nurse can come to the house 3 times a week to drain the fluid. He did the procedure right away under local anesthetic and drained some more. There was so much that it was actually pressing against her heart which was causing her heart rate to be very high. In the past 8 days, 3 litres of fluid has been taken out. She is such a trooper...after the procedure, she has a couple of Tylenol, had lunch at a food court and went to an afternoon of classes at ACAD. We are all praying that with regular draining, she will be feeling much better.
