On Monday, May 12, 2014, at about 7:50 a.m. Yuma Police Department Officers went to the 500 block of South 24thAvenue for a report of a suspicious incident. The investigation revealed a man wasmotioning to talk to two girls walking to school at Pecan Grove Elementary School. The man was approached by a teacher from Immaculate Conception School and he took off running north into the neighborhood. The same man was seen in the area last week. The man was described as a white male in his 40’s, about 5’8” to 5’10” and between 175 and 190 pounds, with a broad frame and a slender waist. He had an unshaven look to his face and was last seen wearing a white shirt with blue jeans. Pecan Grove School and Immaculate Conception school were alerted to the incidents. School staff from both schools is working closely with Yuma Police Officers to ensure student safety. Pecan Grove has posted staff at the corners of the school property and Yuma Police Officers have increased patrols in the area. The Yuma Police Department encourages parents to revisit safety rules and know their child’s route to and from school. Encourage walking to and from school in at least pairs (strength in numbers) and what to do if approached by a stranger.
