On Mothers Day I would like to take a moment to honor the beautiful impact moms can have on our lives (it truly changes our brains structure!) and has such a powerful impact throughout life. When a positive nurturing experience is not what we have know however it can be a very difficult day. This is a day that means many different things to many people. For those that this is a painful day practicing a loving kindness meditation can be a powerful act of self love and self nurture. I love one by Tara Brach- this has actually been shown to create changes in our brain. It is as follows: Begin by placing your hand over your heart and closing your eyes if comfortable. Next take a few deep breaths then repeat out loud: may my heart be filled with a living presence. Pause and allow yourself to absorb this wish for yourself then add other things you wish to give yourself...may my heart be filled with peace, joy, strength etc. Such a beautiful process and a great way to start the day each day. Over time we rewire the brain, calm the areas of the brain activated by trauma and increase our empathetic abilities (for self and others). Wishing each of you a gentle day...
