On November 16 of 1928, Ben Selvin (the grandpa of David Eric Selvin & Emily Selvin) & his orchestra went to the Columbia studios in New York to cut this wonderful version of this tune titled Stairway of Dreams, with a vocal refrain from Larry Murphy (https://youtube/watch?v=-O_ybX3lVng). Also present on this side are Sol Kleins violin, Chuck Campbells trombone, Hymie Wolfsons tenor sax & clarinet, Arthur Schutts piano, probably Tony Toots Colucci or Carl Kress or Dick McDonough on guitar, Hank Stern on tuba & Stan King on drums. As for the trumpeters, i believe that theyre Leo McConville & Mannie Klein (confirmation needed). The recording went issued on Columbia 1646-D & japanese Columbia J-677 as the Knickerbockers. Im pretty sure that Tom Samuels would have enjoyed this Ben Selvin Facebook group a lot. Hope youll like this Ben Selvin side!
